In spite of what the Bible teaches and the fact that every movement knows that you start with the kids churches have put children ministry at the bottom of the list of priorities.  Yet statistics show that if you don't reach a child with the gospel before their teenage years the chances of reaching them at all drops to less than 7%.

The Jesuits have a saying:  "Give us a child until he is five and he will be a Catholic for life."  The social progressives, who are enemies of everything relating to Biblical values have targeted our grade schools for their socialist agenda, they know the children are the tender minds.  The gays and lesbians have targeted even the kindergarteners, they know the sooner they can indoctrinate with their perversion the harder for anyone to speak against them.  Charles H. Spurgeon said in his book "Come Ye Children", "If we don't fill our children's minds with wheat, Satan will surely fill them with chaff."

In all of my years of ministry I have only seen one church that was growing and did not have a children's ministry.  Children's ministry secures the future of the church, eighty percent of full-time workers surveyed in a Barna survey were saved in childhood.  It is commanded throughout the entire Bible that we reach the children.  In fact Jesus got angry when the disciples tried to prevent children from coming to Him.  Children are the doorway to the rest of the family.

Should your church have a bus Ministry?

For many reasons the concept of bus ministry has fallen out of favor with many, yet if you want a growing church you will have to build a strong Sunday School.  You can't build a Sunday School without students and teachers.

A bus ministry has two major benefits:

  • It "primes the pump" for new families

I will tell you not as a pastor, or children's worker but as a dad- if you want me to come to your church with my family, I need to see a vibrant children's ministry.  That won't happen without children.  See where I'm going?

I have never seen a church with families that disagreed with the above paragraph.  I have seen a lot of dying churches who argued with the above statement.

  • It reaches a generation that won't be reached any other way

Lost parents are not going to bring their children to church.  It is not enough to simply look at here and now, if you want your church to survive in the future you need to start bringing them to Christ now.  You need to teach them now.  Jesus told us that our job is to win them.  They won't just wander in.

If you teach children you absolutely must purchase the Children's Ministry Resource Bible  by Thomas Nelson Publishers

This Bible is filled with lessons, study aids, and a ton of information that will make you a more effective teacher of children.  It is not a good primary Bible because of all the aids and it is New King James instead of King James.  Nevertheless the information is invaluable.  I make no money from this recommendation, but much of the information in this Children's Ministry area is drawn from the helps in this Bible.
